The plot of My Best Friend’s Exorcism in a nutshell
My Best Friend’s Exorcism is a horror-comedy film based on a book by Grady Hendrix and directed by Damon Thomas (Killing Eve). It blends memories of the 1980s, high school drama, and demonic possession to create a unique horror-comedy mix.
In the film, Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) plays Abby Rivers, a self-conscious teenager who will do anything for her best friend Gretchen Lang (Amia Miller), even if it means saving her from a real demon.
How is Gretchen taken?
Gretchen and Abby are best friends. “Lylas,” they say goodbye every time. It means, “I care for you like a sister.” Gretchen’s family is moving to another state, so Gretchen will finish high school in a different location.
Before Gretchen leaves, the friends get to spend the weekend in a remote cabin with their friends Margaret Chisolm (Rachel Ogechi Kanu) and Glee Tanaka (Kathy Enge).
Gretchen and Abby decide to go for a night out after taking acid from Margaret’s boyfriend Wally (Clayton Royal Johnson). They eventually find a shed somewhere in the middle, and Gretchen calls Abby inside. But something inside scares them both, so they run away. Gretchen falls down, but Abby keeps running, even though she hears Gretchen is right behind her.
However, it is a trick. He’s actually still in the shed, as is Gretchen. And something off-screen pulls him away.
Abby asks Margaret and Glee to help her find her friend when she learns that he is no longer with her. And they find him – back in the shed, alone. “Where did you go?” Gretchen asked Abby sternly, “What did you do?” He had told her earlier that day that she would never leave him.

Gretchen doesn’t kill his friends
Gretchen isn’t the same since it happened. She stops bathing, her skin begins to pick at itself, and her lips dry and crack. She also acts differently.
At first, she just looks sad, like she’s been on a bad acid trip. But in the end the demon takes over more and more. She gives Margaret a dreaded “diet shake” which causes her to almost starve. Then she takes the boyfriend Margaret has. She gives Ullas brownies with nuts, which causes her a very bad allergic reaction. She makes fun of Abby and spoils her in front of all her classmates.
Gretchen’s plan almost kills both Margaret and Glee, but luckily neither of them die. Both of them have been taken to the hospital for emergency care.
Abby learns that something bad is happening to her friend Gretchen by reading her notebook and going back to the old shed. And he’ll need help to get out of it.
How does Abby get rid of Andras and save Gretchen?
Abby turns to Christian Lemon, a religious exercise specialist, played by Christopher Lowell, for help. A few weeks ago, the Lemon Brothers did a show at Abby’s high school. His work is called “Lifting for Jesus”. During the show, Abby saw how Christian was dismayed by Gretchen’s behavior.
So, she has found him and is asking him what he knows. Gretchen is possessed by a demon, Christian tells him. He is willing to help by exorcism, but he warns her that it will not be easy.
Abby can break into Gretchen’s house and give her drugs. Then, she and Christian tie her to a bed in the vacation cabin where Margaret’s family lives. Christian grieves the demon by taking the name of God and throwing holy water on Gretchen. Finally the demon says that his name is Andras. But Abby already knew this. Gretchen was previously kept in a shed. The name “Andras” was written on the wall of the shed.
Christian keeps trying to get rid of Andras, but the demon makes it hard for him when he takes the shape of Christian’s dead mother. He can’t handle it. He runs away, leaving Abby alone to deal with the problem.
Gretchen breaks out of her chains and fights Abby, who doesn’t know how to get rid of a demon “in the name of Jesus”. For one thing, he is Jewish.
Abby decides to do something else. She says that her friendship with Gretchen gives her strength. After telling her everything she has in common with her best friend Gretchen, she tells him she loves him. Andras finally comes out of Gretchen, and Abby sets the demon on fire.

What did the “MIN” mean on the Ouija board?
Before Abby and Gretchen can find the shade, Margaret pulls out an Ouija board, which they play as a joke.
The girls put their hands on the board at the same time and asked any spirit there to help them. Their hands start to move, but the girls think Margaret is messing with them.
They pronounce the letters “min” before they stop their experiment and laugh it off. But Andras was probably trying to talk to them. “Mine,” he later says repeatedly about Gretchen. The board will have written “MINE”.
What Happens at the End of “The Exorcism of My Best Friend”?
Gretchen was saved from Andras not by the Bible or the cross, but by the friendship of the abbey. Now, they can remain friends.
Gretchen walks away at the end of My Best Friends Exorcism, but the best friends promise to love each other like sisters “Lylas”. They remain best friends and see each other once a year.

It also celebrates some of the worst things of the 1980s, like big perms, cherry coke, and bright pink eyeshadow. The film is based on the book by Grady Hendrix about how demonic possession tests the friendship and loyalty of teenagers. It’s a lot of fun, and some of the comedy performances are spectacular.

Then she acts like a capital-bb b*tch and makes her friends’ lives miserable (in fact, the point can’t be made many times in horror movies that teens are tortured without diabolical intervention) may).
My Best Friend’s Exorcism is a horror-comedy, but it’s not just a bad copy of the ’80s because of how cleverly the script uses references from the ’80s. The joke in the most terrifying scene is about a 1980s diet pill urban legend, which I immediately remembered. And Abby hires a weirdo celebrity Christian bodybuilder named Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell) to perform an exorcism on Gretchen. Director Damon Thomas worked on episodes of Killing Eve, and he seems to have a lot of fun in these scenes, as the mullet-wearing, muscular T-shirt-cropped Christian proves unfit for the job (“It’s Not Your Average is” puke and reprimand”).
The movie My Best Friend’s Exorcism could use a real scare or two. But it will bring back fond memories for anyone who remembers Tiffany and the advice columns in magazines for teen girls.

With the word “exorcism” in the title, vomiting and other signs of possession have all subspecies, but only as an introduction. There’s nothing really scary like The Exorcist. Instead, teleplay writer Jenna Lamia focuses on 1980s references to make a friendship with Satan less scary. My Best Friend’s Exorcism draws its punches and uses a lot of digital effects even when people throw up, but it still has an easy-to-follow plot and gives teenage girls a lead in a field that which used to be dominated by men.
