Tottenham are set to sign Clement Lenglet with Barcelona defender who turns down Jose Mourinho’s rival offer from Roma.

Antonio Conte has wanted a left-footed center this summer but has been difficult to chase.

Ben Davies did a great job there last season but he needs to compete to keep going.

Conte and Fabio Paratici looked to the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol but those moves were not possible.

Tottenham may now be looking elsewhere and it looks like French international Lenglet is emerging as a potential addition.

Tottenham ready to sign Clement Lenglet

Lenglet is available this summer with Barcelona desperately trying to whip up players in their squad.

Barcelona paid £32m to sign Lenglet from Sevilla in 2018 but are now set to leave the Camp Nou.

Lenglet, 27, started only seven league games last season and needs a fresh challenge elsewhere.

90Min now claims Lenglet is ready to join Tottenham on loan for the season, with the option to buy if he impresses.

It added that both Marseille and Roma were also keen but Lenglet has chosen Tottenham as their next destination.

It appears that Spurs have overhauled their former boss Mourinho to sign Lenglet – but Roma could still benefit from the move.

The report said the arrival of Lenglet would push Joe Roden closer to the Tottenham exit door and Roma are eager to sign him.

Mourinho brought Roden to Tottenham in 2020 and the pair could now reunite in a surprise move with Lenglet off the market.

The pair are not exactly identical profiles; Lenglet’s left footing is one of the big reasons why Tottenham want him while Rodan is right footed.

Mourinho may not be too upset about it, but it is very important for Conte to play the way he wants to play at Tottenham.

Lenglet’s success after struggling for form at Barcelona at Tottenham is not a sure thing, but beating a few clubs for his signature is a bonus for Paratici & co.
