Well, there is no chance of Aaron Hickey joining Arsenal now.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted this afternoon that the Scottish left-back is set to leave Bologna to join Premier League outfit Brentford.
Arsenal have been linked with the move to sign Hickey for most of the summer.
Two weeks earlier, it was reported by The Scotsman that the Gunners were closing in on a move to get the 20-year-old defender.
However, this no longer appears to be the case as Romano tweeted that he was destined for the other side of London.
This is clearly bad news for Arsenal, who are not going to achieve one of their alleged goals.
And honestly, it’s probably down to Kieran Tierney.
Not directly, but Hickey probably wants regular football every single week and the truth is, with Tierney ahead of him in the pecking order, it more than likely won’t happen.
Tierney is Arsenal’s first choice for that role and even though the former Celtic youngster is at risk of injury, Hickey cannot be expected to rely on the 24-year-old’s absence to get minutes on the pitch.
Mikel Arteta also has Nuno Tavares as a left-back option and although Hickey may have been ahead of him, it is not guaranteed as the Portuguese youngster has the basics of a formidable attacking player and if he can get his iron out. Can do the defensive crease, well he’s a real threat to Tierney.
Overall, you have to say that Hickey is probably making the right decision.
