It’s the heat of change at Burnley. And not just in the dugout.

A week after being officially unveiled as the permanent successor to Sean Dyche, Vincent Kompany’s time in charge of the Clarets begins with the loss of Nick Pope; One of the finest shot-stoppers in England and the most consistent performer during Burnley’s 2021/22 campaign.

Pope is on the verge of joining Newcastle United.

And the England international will not be Burnley’s only high-profile departure. The imminent exit of James Tarkowski and Ben Mee robbed the company of a long-standing centre-back partnership that would go down in Turf Moor folklore.

Furthermore, it is common knowledge that Maxwell Cornet’s contract has a £17 million release clause. Which is unlikely to remain un-triggered for long. Meanwhile, Vout Weghorst, who has only arrived from Wolfsburg in January, has little interest in playing second-level football in the lead-up to the Qatar World Cup.

Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Sebi recently confirmed that ‘we have financially joined hands with Weghorst’ before a possible Turkish move.

Incoming and outgoing in Burnley

But it’s not all bad news.

According to Lanx Live, Josh Brownhill and Charlie Taylor should follow in Jack Cork’s footsteps, handing their future to Burnley for the time being. Dwight McNeill has a lot of fans but is the number one target for none of them, while according to The Athletic, The Clarets are “under no pressure” to capitalize on the highly promising Nathan Collins.

Furthermore, the company’s reputation – both at home and abroad – can only help with regards to bringing in a fleet of new faces. Burnley is unlikely to return with a third bid for Oxford United defender Luke McNally, The Athletic says, but Swansea City’s Joel Latibudier could be an affordable option. Especially now that Swan boss Russell Martin has been reunited with former MK Dons ace Harry Darling.

Latibeaudiere, who could be the subject of a £500,000 Burnley bid, worked with Kompany at Manchester City.

The inevitable arrival of Dan Ballard from Arsenal, however, will reduce the need for defensive reinforcements. Per The Athletic, a player shining on loan at Millwall will soon undergo a therapy at Burnley.

Scott in twine?

Further, Burnley has reportedly said Offered £4 million for Scott Twin of MK Dawns. Having scored 20 goals from attacking midfield in the last stint, the set-piece specialist will be adding some much-needed thrust and unpredictability in the central areas. Twine’s chase could be intensified after another target – Jade Wallace – sealed his move to West Brom.

Blackpool’s Jordan Gabriel is another EFL prospect on the company’s radar. And the former Arsenal youngster isn’t the only right-back to emerge as Burnley’s target in recent times. Michael Amir Murillo, an attacking-minded £3.5million Panama international, shone in Anderlecht in the previous stint under Kompany.

As did tireless Republic of Ireland international Josh Cullen, a potential replacement for the injured Ashley Westwood. The more aggressive, creative midfielder Majid Ashimeru has held talks with his former RCSA boss but is expected to go on and play European football with Anderlecht in 2022/23.

Mandela Keita, a 20-year-old dynamo called ‘a mix between N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba’, could be a more attainable target. Kompany is reportedly confident that 6ft 4ins KV Mechelen goaltender Makhtar Gueye can thrive at Burnley as well, especially with the likes of McNeil and Taylor providing services widely.

A potential Weghorst replacement, Gué scored 13 goals last season. Burnley will reportedly stump up £4 million.

a Jupiter League race

However, finding someone able to step into Pope’s shoes at the other end of the pitch could be the biggest test facing Kompany and his recruiting team.

Again, 35-year-old Wayne Hennessy proved that there’s life left in the old dog with an inspired performance during Wales’ recent World Cup qualification win over Ukraine. And, according to The Sun, Kompany could be requesting a favor from his old employers with the Burnley boss a big fan of Manchester City’s Arrow Murick.

Muric was a disaster on loan at Nottingham Forest in 2019/20. But he is a more mature, confident, reliable gloveman these days.
