*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things Season 4*

As a series set in the eighties, Stranger Things has always had a close association with music, featuring a string of classic tracks to underpin the action.

The music is particularly important throughout Season 4 as it proves to be one of the few ways in which the Hawkins gang can fight back against a deadly creature named Vecna.

In several trailers for the latest season, new arrival Eddie Munson can be seen playing the electric guitar in the Upside Down but what song does he play in Stranger Things Season 4?

The gang’s plan to defeat Vecna

Vecna has been the deadliest enemy we’ve seen in Stranger Things as he engages in a vicious killing spree in Season 4, hoping to open the four gates between the Upside Down and our world to bring ultimate destruction.

The fearsome villain may seem indestructible at first, but Hawkins manages to overcome his weaknesses thanks to his knowledge of the Gang Eleven.

Dustin works out that when Vecna travels to our world, her body should be in a defenseless trance-like state in the Upside Down, so the gang plans to attack her when she is at her most vulnerable.

The plan is incredibly dangerous, however, as when Steve, Robin and Nancy venture into the Upside Down to take out Vecna, Max must live in our world and act as bait.

In order to give Steve, Robin and Nancy as much time as possible to kill Vecna, Eddie and Dustin also venture into the Upside Down to distract the Demobats who serve and protect Vecna.

What song does Eddie play in the Upside Down in Stranger Things?

Eddie plays a song during Master of Puppets in the Upside Down by Metallica.

To catch the Demobats’ attention, Eddie and Dustin head to the Upside Down version of Eddie’s trailer, where they find an electric guitar, which they say is perfect for saving the world.

A fan of all things heavy metal, Eddie plays Metallica’s Master of Puppets, bringing some much-needed rock and roll to the Upside Down.

The plan succeeds as the music catches Bat’s attention, giving Steve, Robin and Nancy the time needed to track down and kill Vecna.

Given that Vecna has been pulling strings from within the Upside Down since the very beginning, Master of Puppets seems like a very fitting song choice to signal their downfall.

History of Metallica’s Master of Puppets

Released in March 1986, Master of Puppets was released the same year that Stranger Things 4 was set.

The song is the second track from Metallica’s album of the same name, which is considered one of the best albums in the thrash metal genre to date and is included in several best albums of the 20th century list.

The album sold 4,578,000 copies between 1991, when the Nielsen SoundScan rating was introduced, and 2009.

On Spotify, the song Master of Puppets has been played over 423 million times and, thanks to its appearance in Stranger Things, that figure is only going to grow.

Stranger Things Season 4 is now available in full after Volume 2 arrives on Netflix on Friday, July 1, 2022.
